I'm sure that not many people know how to make money as a courier, or even what a courier is; A Courier is defined by Wikipedia as "A person or company employed to deliver messages, packages and mail." There are courier companies, such as UPS and USPS; I'm sure that many of you have heard of those. However, being a freelance courier will make you much more than the standard $25.00 per hour of a UPS Driver. All that you need is a car, it's not hard at all to get started!

How much do self employed couriers earn?

A courier's job is essentially to drive around and deliver packages, in fact, being a self employed courier can earn you a quite a bit of money. The average freelance courier earns around $2,000 per week and has the potential of making more money, depending on how many hours you are willing to put into it! Often times, companies will pay you to deliver mail that they were unable to deliver. If you enjoy driving and making money, this is the job for you.

Magazine and Newspaper Companies - I'm sure it's no surprise to you that newspapers and magazine companies need packages delivered from area to area. In fact, in almost every newspaper stand you see is supplied via a self employed courier. Newspaper companies need you!

Auto Parts Companies often use couriers to deliver parts from airports to individual mechanic shops, and are paid extremely well for their services.

Interesting hub. I never considered being a courier as a job a person can create from home. I wonder if there are any special insurance considerations that a person needs to consider. Obviously auto insurance will be primary but I would think a person would needs some sort of protection against loss of the packages that you agree to deliver.

I've got a friend who's a courier and he absolutely loves his job. As for me, I tend to get sweaty and stressed behind the wheel. I don't think I could do it!
