I had a hernia operation on 7 April of this year in a small country town in South Thailand. They did an excellent job. I was awake for the whole ordeal and the nurses talked to me and laughed a lot to keep my spirits up. They put a cloth screen over my chest so I couldn't witness the carnage. I was disappointed as I enjoy watching stuff like that. I was out of the hospital and walking around in 2 days. Now, a little over a week later, the pain is subsiding quickly and I feel pretty good. The total cost was about $500. US. That included the 2 nights in a private air conditioned room and the $100. US I had to pay the doctor to do it when I wanted it done.
